Surely this does not apply to you. You are disciplined as hell, have infinite willpower and living your dream in all areas of your life! Then you can skip my blog post from today and we see us next time.

I am glad you stayed with me. You won't regret - I promise! Especially because today is my favourite day. Not only because it's today, also because it is "Announcement day" and what I am going to announce you can find at the end of todays blog post. 😎👌

BUT, If you might have had a thought about changing any of your life conditions previously and did for some reason NOT follow through with your idea, I might have some inspiration for you within what I am going to share with your right now.

Let me tell you this …

“Complexity is the enemy of execution”

Sounds logical? Well, the thing is, that life in its nature is complex. So how to change nature of life? That is not possible at all because if you start arguing with life you are going to fail and become miserable. Ever done that before, when you were bargaining with life or even bagging that its conditions should change or were you complaining about some bad luck for example? Life is not going to change until you change!

So, when it comes down to fulfilling a plan, we have to find specific ways to reduce complexity in our lives to finally make the changes necessary that take us where we want to be. This has to happen without sim

plifying too much so that we would miss out on relevant details. There is a so-called sweet spot we have to watch out for. Can you follow me?

Let us assume you already have a clear goal you want to aim for. You even might have written it down and pinned it onto your wall so that it is visible to you as often as possible. So, the next step would be then to literally make the steps into the right direction in order to make your wish come true.

At this point many of us start to create an extraordinary and sophisticated plan and since we as athletes are always overachieving and striving for the highest honours, we are used to setting very high standards. Exactly at this point is where it gets really tricky. See, the problem is, that when we start a project, we have very little knowledge about the challenges we might face on our journey. Even though we read a lot about a specific topic, or we know the environment ant the difficulties already from previous attempts, we never are able to predict the future. So whatever plan we are creating with help of our brilliant minds, is going to be way different to the challenges we will face in reality. We will realise this very quickly. The best execution plan is already outdated one minute after we finished the draft. Just think about budgeting in large corporations. Same issue – it’s just a waste of precious time in which you can take the steps towards what you are actually aiming for.

Should we therefore stop making plans? NO, that would surely be not right as well. What we need is to have a strategy that is flexibly adaptable. This flexibility and willingness to adapt and not sticking rigidly to the peeeeeeeeeerfect plan is the key. You might want to even draft several scenarios for the future to be prepared whatever happens on the one hand, but on the other hand it is always necessary to have inner certainty and conviction that you will be ready to deal with what life brings up to you. Inner certainty that you can handle challenges along the way will bring you way further than the most sophisticated plan.

Remember that complexity is the enemy of execution. That is so important that you might add this little sentence to your plan and remind yourself about it on a daily basis.

I truly hope I could give you some inspiration for your goals this year and you won’t ever again belong to those kinds of persons that invest more time into planning than executing.

Have a great Wednesday!

Wilhelm
